Kemen Demecser

Demecser is an ancient settlement in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, Hungary, with roots dating back to the Bronze Age. First mentioned around 1270–1272 as "Kemény Demecser," it was a medieval estate featuring a 13th-century motte-and-bailey castle known as Tündérvár or Lányvár. Key historic landmarks include an 1820 Reformed church and an 1896 Roman Catholic church. Key Historical Aspects of Demecser: Early History: The area was inhabited during the Bronze Age, as indicated by various archaeological finds. Medieval Period: Mentioned in records around 1270–1272, when  King Stephen V donated the area to Sándor Kárászi.
The settlement was involved in disputes between the Kárászi and Balogh-Semjén families in the early 14th century. Tündérvár (Lányvár): A small, 13th-century noble motte castle (roughly   meters) once stood in the marshy area north of the village. It was likely a fortified brick tower, now completely destroyed. Religious and Cultural History: Roman Catholic Church: A church was built in 1796 and a parish was established in 1813. The current eclectic-style brick church was built in 1896. Reformed Church: Built in 1820. Jewish Community: The first Jews were recorded in a 1770 census. By 1910, the community numbered 274, growing to 330 by 1920.
